Last Day

Dear Class,

What a nice surprise you had for me today! The flowers are beautiful and I appreciate them very much. I'm very sorry for our time together to end because I enjoyed being with you so much. You are a group of very talented, smart, and caring individuals, and I think you will be very successful in the business world. Please stay in touch and let me know if I can help you in any way with English. And remember mi casa es su casa.

Hope you like the photos. Some of mine are blurry. If you have any to add to our page, please do!

I will miss you.

Writing Exams

Hi Class,

In general your writing tests were rather disappointing, although some of you handled the topics well.

Here are some common mistakes I found on your writing exams. I think you would like to know how to correct them, so I’m putting this on the blog for everyone. Please study this list so that you won’t make these mistakes again.

I will meet you tomorrow around 11:30 to go over your grades for the third partial. I hope all of you can come so we can take a group photo and say goodbye. I have really enjoyed working with you this semester. Best of luck as you finish your career here. I will always remember you!

The End of Second Partial

Hello Class,

As you know, this is the last week of the second partial.

Before Friday, April 11, you must post to your blog two reflections, one for last week and another for this week.

We will have a reading comprehension quiz tomorrow, April 8.

You will also have a listening quiz this week.

Your grammar test is scheduled for Monday, April 14. I would like to meet with you the following day, April 15, to go over your test and your grade for the second partial.

Please remember that I have to record your grades by Wednesday; therefore, you must get all your assignments completed on time. I cannot accept any late work.

Keep working hard!

Missed Class on March 31

Hi Class,
I'm very sorry I had to miss class this morning. I had an appointment to go to Immigration for my visa at 8:30, and we didn't finish there until 12:30.

You should have posted two things on your blog by last Sunday:
1) your letter about the Hershey dilemma;
2) your reflections about the first week of the second partial.

If you have not done this yet, I will extend the deadline until tomorrow (Tuesday) night, to make up for my missing class today. :)

In Unit 13 we will study reported speech. There is a very good website that explains this topic quite well and gives a practice quiz. Just copy and paste the link in your address bar.

Here are the links:

See you tomorrow!

Important!

Hello Class,
Please remember that we will finish Unit 11 tomorrow.

I will meet you at 9 on Wednesday in our classroom for the listening and reading evaluations.

Your first partial test is scheduled for March 6, and I have to post your grades by March 8. I cannot accept any late work.

Your writing evaluation will consist of your CV and your reflections of the first partial period, units 9 -11. Please include comments about how you feel about using the blog, working with a native teacher, our classroom dynamics, and anything outside of class that you are doing to improve your English. The reflections must be posted to your blog by March 4 in order for me to complete your continuous evaluation on time. I will not have time to read anything after March 4; however, I will check to see that you have made the corrections that I suggest.

Good luck in preparing for your tests.

Punctuation

Hello class,

After reading through your blogs, I realized that many of you need to study rules for punctuation. Here is a good website to review: http://www.dailywritingtips.com/category/punctuation/

Please pay close attention to the section on the comma splice.

If you find this site helpful, you might like to go to the home page and review other topics.

I hope you find this helpful.

Make Your Own Comic Strip!

Hello everyone

In class today I will show you how to create your own comic strip.
Here is the link http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/comix.php For homework, please create a comic strip and use conditional sentences in your talk or thought balloons. When you finish, please email your comic strip to me. Remember the patterns for conditional sentences:

present tense in IF; "will" in RESULT clause
past tense in IF: "would or could" in RESULT
had + past participle in IF; "would have or could have" in RESULT

If someone figures out how to post the comics to your blogs, please tell all of us.

Class on Valentine's Day

Hello everyone

I checked with the head of the English Department about your request to miss class on Thursday. You have two options for Thursday.

(1) Come to class, listen to (maybe sing) love songs, and have a conversation with me. This will count as a speaking evaluation. I will be in class as usual.

(2) Prepare the speaking section on page 89 in the red book and present it in class on Friday.

Hope to see you tomorrow!
